If you’ve used Photoshop before, chances are you’ve used the crop tool. Most times it is used to get a better image composition or to get rid of certain portions of an image.
But did you know that you can also use the crop tool to increase the canvas size of an image?
Next time you need a larger canvas, try this tip before going to the Canvas Size dialog box.
To make the canvas size larger by using the crop tool:
- Open your image and zoom out so that you can see the surrounding canvas area.
- Choose the crop tool from your toolbox.
- Click and drag the crop tool over the image so the bounding box handles are on the four sides of the image.
- Click and drag each bounding box handle out as far as you want the canvas to extend.
- Either double-click inside the bounding box to accept the crop, or click the checkmark on the tool options bar.
