IE7 Built For Junk

IE7 is built for junk, you read it right. If you don’t have IE7 yet, wait until you run Windows Update (which by the way you should do as there is a new hole found - heard it on the news last night - that can let hackers gain control of your pc). Although you can prevent IE7 from installing by going the Custom Install rather than Basic Install route, the fact of the matter is that many users (who are visitors to our websites) will be getting the update without even thinking otherwise.

What’s so bad about this? Because Microsoft decides it is better to support sites running old junky code than support sites based on Web standards. It’s not the old junky code sites that are breaking, quite the opposite. Not only that, but they’ve gone through and removed hacks that let us work around the old geezer of a browser!

Now I’m not saying that all CSS based sites are displaying poorly. Mine have all seemed to appear fine on the new version. However, it is just maddening to think (although why would I have expected different?) that a new version of IE doesn’t mean much new support for CSS and standards based design.
