A WebmasterWorld thread posed the question about how long a person should wait after making a change to see if it helped with Google.  In the case of the thread, the site seems to have been penalized.  The poster wants to make several changes to the site but doesn’t know how long to wait after the changes before taking the next step.

WebmasterWorld moderator, minnapple, offers some timeline advice:

  • Site wide internal link changes can take a few weeks to kick in
  • Single on page stuff should happen days after a bot visit
  • Inbounds final effects can vary widely but somewhat equals: link found and target page recached + 15 days.

This isn’t chiseled in stone so if you read this much later than the posting date you may want to check what, if any algorithm changes Google may have made that could specifically impact your site.
