Web 2.0 Design Style

I’ve posed and gave my opinion in various discussion forums before on what my idea of Web 2.0 Design is. Of course it’s a trend, and all trends will eventually pass (from the mainstream I mean there’s always someone who can’t let go).

Over on the Yahoo! Publisher Network Blog, Lynn Chang puts in her two cents on Web 2.0 style and how to implement it on your website.

She goes on to pick out six distinctive features that would typify a Web 2.0 Design Style and she even gives example sites:

  1. Layout
  2. Gradients
  3. Strong and Contrasting Colors
  4. 3-D Icons
  5. Rounded Corners
  6. Oversized Text

She also mentions a few things to definitely (and I completely agree) avoid when designing your Web 2.0 Website:

  • Blinking graphics such as animated GIFs
  • 100 percent Flash web sites
  • Visible tables
  • Websites without CSS
