The Mobile AvengerAs you know, I’ve recently acquired Cameron Moll’s mobile web design book.  After the introduction chapter, there is a section on mobile web fundamentals.

Now I don’t want to give away to much but some of the information needs to be shared.

Did you know that in the U.K. and U.S. mobile web usage is 17-19% of PC web usage?  That’s staggering when you think of 176 million in the U.S. accessing the web.  30 million of those?  Using the mobile web.

One site that truly gets the mobile experience (hint, hint… another upcoming post) is Weather.com.  According to a comScore Press Release, the Weather Channel has a greater reach via the mobile web than it does the PC-based web in the U.S. market.

These numbers point to a completely new user experience.  The iPhone has definitely done a lot to help us out there, but your mobile web experience should be cross-mobile friendly.

This is a challenge, no doubt.  But there will be some brave enough to face it head on and tackle this new dawning of civilization.  This new breed of individual will be a fast as lighting.  The Mobile Avenger!  ;)
Okay… enough of being corny… sorry about that.

Really though.  There will be some who begin to focus on the mobile experience and capitalize in a big way.  So where are mobile web developers?

Vernon, cool! so did you start developing for mobiles? It’s definitely worth the effort. BTW - I like your site http://www.kesnerdesigns.net - really great!

@Michael - Thanks! I have a personal project that I’m trying to work on in my spare time (non-existent right now) that is geared towards mobile users. However, I do have a client project that I’m working on that will have a mobile friendly version of the site for visitors to make use of. Once that’s up, I’ll post a short article about it here.

BTW… You have a nice site too! Enjoyed a couple of your articles this morning… of course I had to have it translated to English ;)
