Google is already in trouble from their purchase of YouTube. The Italian government has launched a criminal proceeding against Google and raided their Milan office in regards to the posting of a violent video clip on YouTube. Here is a link to the ALCEI website where the press release about this is posted.
There is a law called Directive 31/00 that basically will protect ISPs from content submitted by users that should help Google out with responsibility for the video. Google has already removed the movie… if you are wondering (and I’m sure your were) the video was made by teenagers showing their own violence against a disabled person.
Sadly, instead of the focus being on the kids in the video it’s on Google. The problem is a lot bigger than a website that allows the posting of videos. We cannot blame a website for the actions of these teenagers. What is sad is that this video and the publicity of the lawsuit will only encourage copycat behavior from other individuals interested in the same thing.
