I said in my last post that I would be posting about a standalone IE7. In that same topic a while back, Jo mentioned that it would be nice to have IE7 as the standalone and IE6 as the main installation.
Well, thanks again to Tredosoft for making this possible!
Proceed with Caution
From the comments on the page it seems that there may be some bugs, however it seems that some things have been taken care of. Just make sure you take care.
To enable conditional CSS support you will need to edit the Windows registry. Also, there are some features that will be broken like:
- Context menus (the one you see when you right click on an empty space)
- The main menu bar
- Disabling popup blocker
- Feed reader
- Installing ActiveX components and ActiveX support
- Showing combo-boxes
- Web pages that require authentication.
- Adding search providers via websites (like this one for example)
According to Tredosoft, the only way to fix this is to install IE7 using the official installer. The reason is that they require replacing certain keys used by IE6 in the windows registry.
Now, I didn’t say that it was perfect but it is a standalone IE7. I guess it all depends on how much you’d rather have IE6 as the main install.
