I know this is a bit off topic, but with it being Christmas and all I just couldn’t resist. Below is a short video of my daughter in her Christmas show with her Pre-K class at school. She loves to sing and dance and it shows like crazy in this video. She’s the third one from the left in the white shirt. I’m sure it will add a Christmas smile to your face!

Merry Christmas!

Ajax Image Map Creator
December 22nd, 2006

Simon Brüchner has created a great Ajax powered image map creator. This is a great online tool that lets you build an image map as you would in a program like Dreamweaver. As you click to build the hotspots, the HTML is generated on the fly.

Simon uses Prototype, Script.aculo.us, Javscript Vectorgraphics Library, dp.SyntaxHighlighter, YUI Reset CSS, and YUI Fonts CSS to accomplish the creation of the Imagemap.

David, over at BloggingPro, posted a helpful article today about Adsense rules with images being changed.

If you use the Adsense Beautifier plug-in, or if you have images lined up with your Adsense ads to mold with your site, you are going to be disappointed. Google has made some changes to the rules in regards to images next to ads.

The two most important points are:

Can I place small images next to my Google ads?

We ask that publishers not line up images and ads in a way that suggests a relationship between the images and the ads. If your visitors believe that the images and the ads are directly associated, or that the advertiser is offering the exact item found in the neighboring image, they may click the ad expecting to find something that isn’t actually being offered. That’s not a good experience for users or advertisers.

Publishers should also be careful to avoid similar implementations that people could find misleading. For instance, if your site contains a directory of Flash games, you should not format the ads to mimic the game descriptions.

What if I place a space or a line between my images and my ads? Would that work?

No. If the ads and the images appear to be associated, inserting a small space or a line between the images and ads will not make the implementation compliant.

There are many that are going to face changes soon. What’s sad is that, like David, I recently planned to try out images to increase click through rates on a few sites.
