Steven Snell has authored a post over on FreelanceSwitch about ways that pricing impacts clients.  Being a freelance web designer myself, I know that setting your rates is one thing that can completely drive you up the wall.

I honestly believe that I’ve priced my services spot on for the 6-years I’ve been freelancing full-time.  Now that’s not saying that I didn’t quote too low or too high sometime or another.  Just that I’ve always been comfortable with my pricing.

However, after the first year of freelancing I gained experience and knowledge and felt that my rate of compensation deserved to increase as well.  Surprisingly (not so much now) this was a very stressful time for me.  Over the years it has become much easier to progress and grow.

If you are thinking about how you should price your services, don’t miss out on this post.

By constantly charging rates that are lower than other freelancers, you’re bound to develop the mindset that your services aren’t on par with the services of others. Likewise, charging higher rates will cause you to view your services in a positive light. This mentality can carry over to your quality of work, because it is subconsciously what you expect from yourself.

Vandelay Website Design is having a blog design competition in the spirit of March Madness.  For those readers outside of the USA, this is a huge NCAA College Basketball Tournament that happens every march that’s dubbed, “March Madness”.

The tournament will work just like the NCAA basketball tournament, head-to-head matchups, single elimination, winner advances to the next round. I’ll seed all of the competitors into a bracket and then I’ll post the matchups with a poll for readers and visitors to vote. The poll will be set for a certain length (probably 24 hours) and the winner moves on.I think this will be a fun way to get everyone’s opinion of which designs they like the best, and of course the competitors can encourage friends and readers to vote if they like. I’ve decided just to include blog designs because having a tournament of any type of website design would be too broad to work very well (blogs can be broad too, but I think it will work better)…

Feel free to keep mentioning those that have already been mentioned by other commenters because that could help me with the seeding. You can certainly nominate your own blog, but I do ask that you identify it as your own in the comment…

Obviously, free themes should not be included. But if moderate customizations have been made to the theme it can be included.

As you know I just did a little graphic revision of the site.  I know you love the “Get the feed baby!” icon right?  Well, if you do I figured I’d go ahead and give you access to use it.
